Digital Arts Summer Camp

The First Annual Digital Arts Summer Camp June 30th-July 3rd

Time: 10am-2pm

Cost: Free

Accepting 12 students

This is an introductory class in the digital arts for high school students. This camp is designed to teach the fundamentals of music, photography, and video design, utilizing the latest software (including Apple Logic Pro X, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and Final Cut Pro X), and techniques from professionals in the field, all while working in the Digital Arts facilities at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This class is targeted toward the beginner/ intermediate level students.

Each day focuses on a specific discipline in the digital arts:

Day 1

Photography & working with Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop

Discover principles of capturing dynamic still images including: rules of thirds, optics and color.

Day 2

Audio & Sound, Music composition & editing in

We'll discuss different types of software, the importance of creating mood & enhancing video with audio.

Day 3

Video, Storytelling, & Post-production in Final Cut Pro X.

Topics discussed: Camera quality, video standards, frame rates, techniques to improve your filmmaking.

Day 4

Create an original digital work using the tools we worked with during camp.

Tour the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts facilities, and explore the creative spaces we use at UNL.

During the day, students will have the opportunity to take a one hour break where they are free to walk around the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, and grab lunch at our Student Union, giving the students a first-hand taste of student life at UNL.

At the end of the final day of camp, we will share and critique our work and some pizza, and talk over the experiences and lessons we learned at camp.
